In the brief interview on this DVD, Claudio Arrau (1903-1991) traces a lineage of his teachers linking him, finally, to Beethoven himself. Whatever one might think about such associations, there is little doubt that Arrau was a supreme interpreter of Beethoven's keyboard works. His legendary Beethoven cycles wherein he presented all thirty-two of the sonatas and the five piano concerti were celebrated events in various parts of the world.
